Our School - Principals Message

Welcome to Balingup Primary School!

As the very proud Principal of this well-respected, all inclusive Primary School, I welcome you to the 2018 school year.

We are a community that collaborates together to achieve shared goals. We currently have 62 students, small classroom sizes and the ability to cater for your child as an individual.

 Our classrooms are all multi-year level classes, consisting of:

* Kindergarten/Pre-primary

* Year 1/2/3

* Year 4/5/6

Our staff provide a wonderful diversity and combined knowledge and experience of our staff is valued as an opportunity for continual growth. Within these mixed year-level classrooms, our students have the ability to both consolidate and extend their learning.

Our classrooms are equipped with the latest iPads, apple TVs, robots, STEM equipment, printers and laptop wireless technologies. We have enough iPads and Laptops for every student to access daily on a 1:1 basis. You will never have to supply an iPad at our school!

We encompass student initiated play, teacher initiated play based learning as well as explicit instructional teaching strategies. Our teachers plan, teach, monitor and assess students using the West Australian Curriculum. We embed the Early Years Learning Framework, Kindergarten Guidelines, National Quality Standards Framework, and Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. We program for each child at their own level of learning and challenge each child to achieve their best. We pride ourselves on our ability to nurture each child as the individual they are.

We use evidence based teaching strategies and have a strong strategic focus on the improvement of student outcomes in literacy and numeracy. There is a high expectation that students will try their hardest and set goals to continue their own personal growth. We encourage a growth mindset and teach students that their learning is not 'fixed'.

All of our staff participate in collaborative teaching and learning. We have strong friendships as well as strong working relationships. We value and respect each other’s expertise and always assist each other when needed.

Balingup PS has its own whole school data collection process. We know where every student is at academically and we track their attendance on a term by term basis. We use this data to cater for the individual and we make sure that every student in our care has success at our school.

At Balingup PS we provide a comprehensive curriculum program. Other programs are available in the school to enrich student learning.

These include:
* Student run sustainable garden complete with worms, vegetable patch and fruit trees
* Breakfast Club
* School Chaplain
* AUSLAN friendly school where all students learn Key Sign as our Languages Curriculum
* Volunteer and Mentor Program
* Specialist Art Teacher
* Strong Community Ties - Small Farm Field Day, Medieval Carnivale, Telling Tales in Balingup, CWA, Balingup Community Garden
* Friday ‘electives’ program where students choose a specialist subject to encourage in depth learning. We currently offer guitar lessons, choir and STEM programs.

We have a high expectation of appropriate behaviour at Balingup PS and we reward the positive behaviours within the school as supported by policies focusing on attendance and behaviour management.

At Balingup PS we recognise the importance of having strong partnerships between students, parents and staff and we welcome all families into our community.

Come for a tour of our school and see the benefits that await your child.
